Safaga is accredited as an international center for climatotherapy after a group of scientists from the National Research Center (NRC) discovered that the area’s geological and climatic characteristics have influence on the natural treatment of certain illnesses. The black sands of the Safaga dunes are rich in minerals and radioactive elements, and the high salinity of the seawater and the clean air (which divert UV ray) improve peoples’ response to medication and helps reduce skin diseases such as psoriasis, acute and chronic arthritis and rheumatism. One of the most famous outlets is the Karlovy Vary Spa at the Menaville Hotel, which is the heart of climatotherapy in Safaga. Up to date, around 8,000 patients worldwide have been treated here.
