The modern name for the ancient city of Thebes, Luxor was the center of activity in ancient times, where 18th and 19th dynasty Pharaohs outdid themselves with the construction of several temples and tombs, and as a result, Luxor is presently known as the world’s largest open air museum, holding more than half of all of Egypt’s antiquities. With Luxor’s magnificent monuments laying to the east and west bank of the Nile, visitors may view the ancient sites atop a horse-drawn carriage or on a felucca ride along the sparkling Nile, and quietly enjoy the rich evidence of an ancient civilization that will never be forgotten.
